Possible Applications
The robotic welding cell on the body-in-white line pauses mid-cycle, its six-axis arm poised above the rear quarter panel. The operator steps forward, boot pressing the foot switch mounted on the safety fence. The moment the switch closes, the cell’s control logic releases the hold: the welding gun lowers, the servo-driven clamp tightens the sheet metal, and the programmed spot sequence begins—each pulse timed to the millisecond. Without lifting hands from the workpiece or reaching for a pendant, the operator keeps both gloves in position, adjusting alignment while the switch triggers the next weld phase. On older manual MIG stations, the same switch lets welders start and stop the arc without breaking visual contact with the seam, reducing spatter and rework. In automated press lines, a dual-contact version sits beneath the operator’s station, one pedal for single-stroke mode and the other for continuous runs, allowing quick shifts between prototype runs and full production without reprogramming the PLC.
