Possible Applications
High-pressure water jets slice through steel blanks on the press line, their cutting edges cooled and lubricated by a curtain of filtered emulsion. Behind the nozzle plate, a precision seal sits in a milled groove, exposed to pulsating pressure every time the valve opens. Its job is not to stop the water—other components handle that—but to prevent the abrasive slurry from migrating into the valve body, where it would score the sliding surfaces and shorten the life of the servo actuator. In the same plant, identical seals appear in the hydraulic circuits of the transfer presses, where they isolate the high-pressure side of the accumulator from the low-pressure return line, ensuring that the stored energy is released in a controlled pulse rather than a slow leak. When the line switches from cutting to piercing, the seal must flex without extruding, maintaining its position despite thermal cycling and the vibration of the press frame. Without it, the emulsion would bypass the filter, carrying metal fines into the pump, and the press would lose repeatability within hours.
