This diaphragm assembly is fitted inside the pilot section of electrically actuated pneumatic control valves found in continuous-process plants—refineries, chemical synthesis lines, bulk-material handling terminals, and large-scale water treatment facilities. The part forms the pressure boundary between the electrical solenoid and the pneumatic output stage: when the coil energises, the diaphragm plate lifts, compressing the spring and allowing instrument air to flow into the valve actuator, shifting the main valve spool. In normal operation the spring keeps the diaphragm seated, blocking air and holding the process valve in its fail-safe position. Operators rely on this fail-safe behaviour during power interruptions or emergency shutdowns; the diaphragm’s consistent sealing surface ensures the actuator stays depressurised and the process valve returns to its designed safe state without manual intervention. The same diaphragm assemblies are also used in redundant control loops where two identical valves share a common air supply, guaranteeing that a single diaphragm failure does not compromise the entire safety circuit.
