Possible Applications
In heavy-duty plate shears, the clamping ring secures the upper blade holder against the machine frame, preventing lateral shift during high-tonnage cuts. Operators fit the ring around the blade carrier’s cylindrical neck, where it acts as a mechanical lock between the moving assembly and the fixed frame. During each cutting stroke, the ring absorbs side loads generated by uneven material thickness or off-center feeding, ensuring the blade remains precisely aligned with the lower counter-blade. Without this restraint, repeated impacts would gradually loosen the blade holder, causing misalignment that degrades cut quality and accelerates wear on both blades and guide rails.
Fabrication shops use the same ring in press brakes to stabilize the upper beam’s pivot points. Here, it sits between the eccentric shaft and the beam’s bearing housing, maintaining constant clearance as the ram cycles. The ring’s interference fit compensates for thermal expansion and minor frame distortions, keeping the ram’s stroke perfectly parallel to the bed. This prevents deflection that would otherwise produce inconsistent bend angles across long workpieces, particularly when forming thick steel sections. Maintenance crews replace the ring during scheduled overhauls, typically after several thousand cycles, to restore original clamping force before play develops.
