Possible Applications
In high-speed web offset presses, the metering unit sits inside the inking system, directly upstream of the ink fountain roller. Its job is to deliver a precise, continuous film of ink to the roller train that transfers the image to the plate cylinder. The unit regulates the volume of ink released per revolution, compensating for changes in press speed, ink viscosity, and ambient humidity without manual adjustment. Operators rely on it to maintain consistent color density across long print runs, reducing waste from over-inking or under-inking. On newspaper presses, the metering unit also allows rapid ink profile changes between editions, enabling quick shifts from full-color to spot-color sections. In commercial sheet-fed presses, the same component ensures uniform coverage on coated stocks, where even minor variations in ink thickness can cause visible banding. When retrofitted into older presses, it often replaces less precise mechanical metering systems, extending the life of existing equipment while meeting tighter print quality standards.
