Possible Applications
During the final assembly of vehicle bodies, every panel must be positioned precisely before robotic welders or adhesive applicators lock it into place. The polyurethane foam pad with its aluminum backing serves as a temporary locating stop on the fixture frame. Mounted directly beneath the door, fender, or roof rail, the pad compresses slightly when the panel is lowered, absorbing minor misalignment without marring the surface. Once the panel is clamped, the pad rebounds, pushing the part upward just enough to maintain consistent gap dimensions for the next operation. On high-volume lines, these pads are swapped out during shift changes to prevent permanent set, ensuring each new batch of bodies meets the same dimensional tolerances.
In adjacent automotive component plants, the same pad type is fitted inside automated handling crates that transport instrument clusters or door modules between presses and assembly cells. Here, it cushions the parts against vibration and minor impacts, preventing scratches that would otherwise trigger rework before the modules reach the main assembly line.
