Possible Applications
In high-speed printing presses, electrical interference from variable-frequency drives and servo motors can disrupt signal integrity, causing misregistration, ghosting, or even unplanned stops. This interference filter is installed directly on the control cabinet’s DIN rail, where it conditions the power supply feeding sensitive electronics—such as encoder feedback loops, PLC input modules, and touchscreen HMIs. By suppressing high-frequency noise generated during rapid acceleration and deceleration of print cylinders, the filter ensures clean voltage reaches the machine’s logic circuits, maintaining consistent color alignment and print quality across long production runs.
In the press’s drive section, the filter works alongside braking resistors and regenerative units, preventing voltage spikes from propagating back into the control network. This is particularly critical in web-fed offset presses, where continuous operation at 15,000 sheets per hour leaves no margin for signal errors. Operators rely on the filter’s passive attenuation to avoid false fault triggers in the safety circuit, reducing unnecessary downtime during high-volume jobs like magazine or packaging production.
A secondary application occurs in digital inkjet presses, where the filter protects the printhead control boards from noise induced by stepper motor drivers. Here, it enables precise droplet placement by stabilizing the reference voltage for the piezo actuators, particularly in variable-data printing where image data changes with every sheet.
