Possible Applications
During the final assembly of high-speed web presses, the scanner connector is fitted directly onto the sensor housing at the edge of the print cylinder. Its role is to carry the optical signal and power lines from the fixed frame into the rotating scanner head without twisting or breaking the cables. As the cylinder spins at up to 15 000 sheets per hour, the connector’s slip-ring contacts maintain continuous electrical contact, allowing the scanner to monitor print registration marks in real time. Operators rely on this uninterrupted signal to adjust ink keys and web tension on the fly, preventing mis-registration and waste. The same connector is also used in the maintenance bay when the scanner is removed for cleaning or calibration, ensuring quick re-connection without soldering or tools. In adjacent sectors such as automotive component lines, the identical connector serves a similar purpose on rotary tables where laser scanners inspect camshafts or crankshafts for surface defects.
