Automated welding cells in automotive body-in-white lines rely on permanent magnetic clamps to secure sheet-metal panels during robotic spot-welding. These clamps, mounted on the fixture’s reference edges, hold the panels flush against locator pins while the welding gun moves along programmed paths. Their role is to prevent micro-shifts caused by the gun’s impact force and thermal expansion, ensuring each weld lands precisely on the flange. Without this magnetic hold, panels would drift, creating gaps that weaken the joint and trigger downstream quality alerts. The same clamps are later used in sub-assembly stations where door hinges or tailgate brackets are tacked into place, again holding the parts motionless until the welds cool. In press-shop automation, they appear on destacking tables, where they separate individual blanks from a stack before the blank is fed into the die. Here, the magnets’ pull is calibrated to lift only the top sheet, leaving the rest undisturbed, so the robot can pick it cleanly without double-feeding. The result is uninterrupted cycle time and consistent part positioning across every shift.
