Possible Applications
The press brake’s upper beam descends, the punch aligns with the die, and the sheet metal blank begins to bend. At this moment, the drill coupling inside the ram’s drive spindle transmits the full torque from the servo motor to the ball screw without backlash. Its polymer composite body absorbs micro-vibrations that would otherwise transfer to the tooling, preventing surface marks on Class-A automotive panels or precision aircraft skins. Because the coupling is non-metallic, it also eliminates galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals in the spindle assembly, a recurring issue when iron couplings are used alongside aluminum or stainless-steel tooling.
In progressive die stations, the same coupling connects the feed roller’s drive shaft to the indexing motor. Here, it compensates for slight misalignment caused by thermal expansion in the die set, ensuring the strip advances exactly one pitch per stroke. The coupling’s damping properties reduce noise and extend the life of the roller bearings, which is critical in high-volume runs where downtime for bearing replacement would halt the entire line.
