Possible Applications
Body-shop robots on the final assembly line at a Bavarian car plant rely on this digital output module to switch the welding guns on and off at the exact moment the body shell arrives. Inside the robot controller cabinet, the module receives a single command from the PLC—“close contact”—and translates it into a clean, isolated signal that energises the 24 VDC relay driving the gun’s solenoid. Because the module sits directly on the EtherCAT bus, the signal reaches the gun within microseconds, synchronising the weld with the conveyor’s encoder pulses and eliminating drift that would otherwise misalign the spot. The same module also controls the pneumatic clamps that hold the door in place during welding, so every cycle—roughly one car per minute—depends on its ability to switch reliably without contact bounce or voltage drop. In adjacent press shops, the module performs a similar role, triggering the release of stamping dies after the press has reached full pressure, ensuring the blank is ejected cleanly before the next cycle begins.
