Possible Applications
Locking collars are a standard component in the rotary indexing tables and multi-station assembly heads that form the backbone of automated production cells. Inside these systems, the collar sits between the central spindle and the tooling plate, acting as a precision clamp that secures the plate against the spindle face. When the table indexes to a new station, the collar is tightened, eliminating any axial play and ensuring the tooling plate remains perfectly aligned with the pick-and-place or joining unit above. This clamping action is repeated hundreds of times per shift, so the collar’s repeatability directly determines the positional accuracy of every assembled part—whether it is a sensor housing, a gearbox sub-assembly, or a battery module.
In adjacent sheet-metal die shops, the same collar is used on quick-change die sets, where it locks the upper die shoe to the press ram with the same zero-backlash requirement, but the focus here remains on the automation line where the collar’s role is most critical: holding the tooling plate rigid so that the robot or servo press can execute its programmed cycle without drift.
