1. Content and Purpose

This manual is intended to provide functional testing of the emergency stop (EMC) circuit, measurement of response time, and creation of documentation for technical workers, equipment maintenance managers, and reliability engineers. The procedure is intended for systems using electrical emergency stop circuits, including industrial units, automatic control equipment, and safety systems in the fields of automotive industry, aerospace industry, food industry, chemical industry, and energy.

2. Precautionary Measures

Turn off the electrical power before starting any work.
Use insulating footwear, eye protection goggles and gloves.
Perform the lockout/tagout process in accordance with the standards DSTU 3042-2017 and ISO 12100:2010.
Do not perform work on live electrical circuits in the absence of appropriate tools and protection.

5. Step by step procedure

  1. Disconnect the power supply. Perform the lockout/tagout process in accordance with DSTU 3042-2017. Use an electrical tester to confirm the absence of voltage.

    Response time measurement: Connect the response time tester to the emergency stop sensor input and measure the time from the moment of call to the moment of power disconnection. The response time should be within 50–300 ms, depending on the system type.

    Error: Failure to lockout poses a danger to persons working on live equipment.

  2. Functional test: Use a multimeter to check the voltage at the input and output of the emergency stop circuit. The input voltage should be 230 V, and the output voltage should be 0 V when disconnected.

    Insulation measurement: Use an insulation tester to measure the insulation resistance. The resistance should be no less than 1 MOhm for systems with voltage up to 1000 V.

    Error: Incorrect sensor installation causes incorrect results.

  3. Sensor Check: Apply a test signal to the emergency stop sensor input. Measure the output voltage at the output. The output voltage must be 230 V to confirm correct operation.

    Return to service: After confirming the correct operation, restore power using the unlock (Unlock/Tagout) process in accordance with ISO 12100:2010.

    Error: Absence of unlocking poses a danger to workers.
